Swedes express low confidence in government and opposition's commitment to sustainability

Only a minority of Swedish citizens believe that the government and opposition are taking sufficient responsibility for sustainable development, shows the data from Sustainable Brand Index. The results show that only 29% of respondents believe that the government is taking sufficient responsibility for sustainable development. For the opposition, the figure is even lower, with only 25% of Swedes viewing their efforts as sufficient.

The political impact of public dissatisfaction

The figures indicate a clear disappointment among citizens regarding the efforts of political leaders for the environment and sustainable development. This is a strong indication that both the government and opposition need to improve their policies and communication on these critical issues.

Given that the EU election is approaching on June 9, this is particularly relevant as it can affect how voters view the parties' ability to handle these issues at a European level. The lack of confidence could have profound effects on the political landscape, especially in the upcoming elections where sustainability issues are increasingly prominent. It also underscores the need for concrete actions and clearer leadership in the area of sustainable development.

The weak figures for both the government and opposition show that there is significant room for political actors to reposition themselves and really show that they can lead Sweden towards a more sustainable future.
